Project 03 — Radiochemistry & Materials

Project Cinder

Target materials and separation chemistry for small-batch isotope work.

Overview

Project Cinder covers the chemistry side of the laboratory: target fabrication, dissolution, and column separation for small-batch isotope work where the yield matters less than knowing exactly what is in the vial.

Work is deliberately small-scale. The output of a run is measured in milligrams, and the deliverable is a characterised material with a documented provenance rather than a quantity.

This paragraph is placeholder text. Replace it with the real scope of the chemistry programme and the constraints — regulatory, practical or scientific — that shape it.

Objectives

  • Reproducible target fabricationA documented process with stated tolerances on thickness, uniformity and composition.
  • Separation with characterised lossesEvery step accounted for, with a mass balance published alongside the product.
  • Full provenance per batchEach vial traceable to its target, run conditions and assay.
  • A method other laboratories can adoptWritten up in enough detail to be repeated without a phone call.

Approach

Target fabrication

Placeholder text describing substrate preparation, deposition method, and how thickness and uniformity are verified before a target is used.

Dissolution and separation

Placeholder text describing the dissolution chemistry, the column stack, and the fraction collection strategy.

Assay and provenance

Placeholder text describing how the product is assayed, what is recorded per batch, and how that record travels with the material.

Have a problem that needs an instrument built around it?

We take on a small number of collaborations and sponsored projects each year, alongside the work we fund ourselves.
